The best ways to burn fat are different for each one of us – we all have different metabolisms with different body types. However, there are handful of core principles which can be applied to everyone which are some of the best ways to burn fat.
Core Principle #1: Run (or Skip)
You’ve heard it time and time again, but the most obvious form of exercise you can perform is still one of the best ways to burn fat – running. Running can be done inside on a treadmill, but you’re more likely going to burn more calories by getting outdoors. If you do your running off-pavement and on hilly terrain, your body will be working harder and in a more healthy environment. Skipping (yes, actual skipping!) is also one of the best ways to burn fat, if not the best! For years, generations of boxers have incorporated skipping into their daily workout routine, and boxers can’t afford to have their bodies at anything other than at peak level of fitness. Give it a try! Practice skipping for twenty minutes and you’ll probably find it to be the hardest 20-minute workout ever!
Core Principle #2: Know what it takes
One of the best ways to burn fat is to know what you need to do to reach your goals. All physical exercise takes effort and determination, so you’re far more likely to succeed if you know what you have to do to reach those goals.
Keep in mind, for the average person, you need to burn 3,500 calories to lose just one pound of fat. There’s also a good rule-of-thumb formula which says to multiply your weight (in pounds) by 13 to find the number of calories you need to consume to maintain your current weight. If you play around with the numbers, you can find out how many calories you need to be putting in your body each day to lose the fat you want to lose. Put together a reasonable and realistic plan to burn fat and reach those weight loss goals.
Core Principle #3: Do what you love
Another method to burn fat is the one you’re most likely to stick with, so if you’re bonkers for barre, take advantage of this! Even if you’re into sports that only require short bursts of activity, you’ll still be burning calories. There is a lot of running and exertion involved in virtually any sport, and many of them have practice drills which you can do alone and have the added benefit of improving your game. Doing something which gives you a challenge, and which you find satisfying, will give you the drive and motivation to push through the bad times and continue on.
