Planned Parenthood: What you need to know!

Planned Parenthood is everywhere in the news these days and as mainly a women’s issue, it’s important to know at least the basics. Here are three elements to this issue to bring you up to speed.

Fact #1:

The United States Senate passed legislation to defund Planned Parenthood with a 52-47 vote on December 3, 2015. However, any bill that defunds Planned Parenthood is thought to get vetoed by the president.

Fact #2:

On Friday, November 27, 2015, 57 year-old  Robert Lewis Dear entered a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs and killed three people and wounding nine others with a semiautomatic rifle. The attack has revived two very political issues… gun rights and the government funding of Planned Parenthood.

Fact #3:ae54346b-fe20-4b46-8123-231a2a797bd6

The non-governmental healthcare organization called Planned Parenthood primarily provides services to women  around reproductive health. There are approximately 700 Planned Parenthood health centers throughout the US and nearly half of their budget comes from the US Government.

It’s a fairly controversial organization, because Planned Parenthood provides abortions; among its other services.  Recent rumors claim that Planned Parenthood is selling the medical waste products of abortion (fetal parts) for profit.  A lot of people believe these claims are untrue and have adopted the #StandWithPP hashtag.
