The Power Of The Regular Check-Up

Preventative medicine is a huge key to wellness. In your own life, when was the last time you had a check-up?   • Blood Pressure Check: Every two years, unless you have already been diagnosed with high blood pressure. Then it will be up to your doctor.
  • Cholesterol: Every five years, unless it’s been diagnosed in a bad range. Then it’s up to your doctor again.
  • Eye Exams: Every two years by an optamolgist.
  • Teeth: Every six months for exams and cleaning. X-rays of your teeth should be done once a year.
  • Mammogram: Every year starting at age 40, or sooner if you have a family history. Your doctor will explore those guidelines with you.
  • Pelvic Exam and Pap Test: Every one to three years as directed by your doctor. It used to be standard to have a yearly test, but now if your scans come back normal, you can stretch out those visits to up to three years between.

Above all find a general practitioner or family doctor to be your “go-to” when problems arise. Yet, their value at ordinary wellness check-ups is what’s so important. They may spot something or ask you questions during your exam that you haven’t even considered before in regards to something that pops up in your family’s history. With your health, it’s always better to be on the safe side, then sorry you didn’t go for wellness visits at all.
