5 Fitness Fixes for A Healthier You: Part I

If you are like me, every Monday I make a promise with myself to be better. That could really mean anything that happens in my daily life – I want to improve. My downfalls are wine, cheese and crackers. If they are in my house, I will consume more than needed. It’s tough because I entertain on the weekends, and there are generally leftovers…which end up being in my belly Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday if there is still anything left by then!

I decided to come up with a four part series here of 5 quick tips that will get you, and me on the straight and arrow starting today! If you have any you would like to share, please Let us know ! I would love to put together a list that is comprised of tips from you our readers!

  1. Put a STOP to Crash Dieting
Research has shown that in the long run, crash dieting does not work. Quick fixes simply do not work. The better approach is to make healthier choices along the way, so there would be no need for the crash diet. Choose smarter and make wiser decisions. Create the foundation for your healthier lifestyle today.
  2. Limit Your Alcohol
I mentioned above, this is one of my weaknesses. My new plan is to not drink during the week, unless I am going to an event, dinner or birthday for example. I find that when I am drinking during the week, my workouts suffer, my skin looks dry and I simply do not perform to my best ability in anything that I do.
  3. Find a New Workout
I love trying new workouts! If you haven’t done this in awhile, there are so many fun things to participate in! I find new workout adventures keep me energized, excited and eager to get up in the am. I also find that I am making more like minded friends who are also on a healthy lifestyle quest. See if Classpass is offered in your city. Its the best way to find and try fun new things to do!
  4. Buddy Up
One of the best ways to stay on track with this journey to health is to have a friend join you. Not only is it easier to stay focused when your friend is on board, it’s more difficult to flake on scheduled workouts. It’s also more fun to shop and cook healthy recipes when you’re not alone! Find a favorite healthy food blog and share new recipes you want to make with your buddy, then on the weekend pick one and make it! My friends and I do this all the time – super fun!
  5. Shut It Down
Your electronics that is. We live in an age where we are “on” all the time. It could be your phone, tablet, TV…shut that stuff down at least 20 minutes before you go to bed. Grab a book, or that Runner’s World magazine, and do some good old fashioned reading. It’s good for your mind and a great way to help you get a good solid night sleep.
