5 Snacking Mistakes – Correct These and Lose Weight

A snack is a snack is a snack. Perhaps true, perhaps not. When you are eating anything in-between your main meals, it is a snack, and there are definitely better ways to snack. Snacking should be controlled and thought out to eliminate the chances of weight gain. Avoid these mistakes and watch the scale drop numbers along with improving your overall health.

5 Snacking Mistakes

You are Starving
Waiting until you are out of your mind with hunger is a no no. Allowing yourself to become this hungry could cause you to grab and eat whatever is closest to you – and that could be an unhealthy choice. Another downfall could be that you eat more than a portion size in your haste to quell your hunger.

Less Water
Yes, those bars and crackers can be seemingly healthy, however, because they are dry, they are more calorically dense. Choosing a more water rich snack is a better option if you are on a mission to lose weight. Choose chopped vegetables or an apple or pear instead.

Healthy Still Has Rules
You made your own hummus or PB2 chocolate treats, which is awesome! The challenge or downfall is that you are over-indulging in these healthy treats. Remember it is all about portion control. Enjoy your delicious treat by putting your proper portion size on a plate and put the rest away before you have your snack.

Liquid Calories
Smoothies are super yummy and delicious. Warning, a smoothie as a snack should not be right around 150 calories. Be aware of everything you are putting into your snack. Keep it simple. One half cup frozen blueberries,  ice cold water and one scoop of Vega Vanilla Protein Powder. This is my go to snack and it totals at 160 calories.

A Snack is a Snack
Remember a snack is simply that. A snack should be no more than 150 calories depending on your daily calorie goal.  A snack is not a meal. Try to make it full of fiber, and satisfying. An apple and a handful of almonds are a great way to go.
