Short Intense Workouts
Don’t let your busy calendar be an excuse to not workout. More and more studies are showing that a short workout can be an excellent way to burn calories and give you a mental boost. There are a multitude of short workouts you can squeeze in – 15 minutes – in which you can burn at least 200 calories. Squeeze in a 15 minute chunk to get your sweat on today.

Breakfast
You need to keep your engine burning to burn fat and calories. Waking up after a long night of fasting you will need to get your metabolism up and running. Not eating a healthy breakfast will cause your body to slow down your engine in an effort to conserve energy, not knowing when your next fuel will be coming. Get a good meal of a lean protein with complex carbs to rev your engine and have a great morning.

Whole Grains
You can increase the calorie burn from eating and digesting by eating whole grains. They are chock full of fiber and take more effort to chew – they also leave less room for seconds. So, get your brown rice, quinoa and oats in everyday to be full, and keep that metabolism running.

Cardio Cardio Cardio
Did you know that you continue to burn calories after a vigorous cardio session? You can expect to burn almost 200 calories above your resting metabolic rate for up to 15 hours after your workout! By knocking out 3 aggressive cardio workouts per week can have you losing up to a pound of fat every two weeks from the caloric burn and the afterburn. Lace up your shoes and start burning those calories and fat away now!

It’s OK to go Nuts
Nuts are a naturally great way to snack and lose weight. Walnuts, cashews and almonds are packed full of magnesium which is good for your heart and has been known to give your metabolism a spike. Avoid the heavily salted varieties and be sure to measure your portion properly, don’t go too nutty!

Pump Iron
Muscle burns more fat. Period. You are not going to get bulky – that is one of the biggest myths EVER! Muscle building translates into a toned and lean body. The strength training will help to change your body composition, Yeah! You want more muscle since it burns more calories and fat aka metabolism. If you are new to working out with weights, find a group fitness class that includes strength training to get you started. You could also book a session with a trainer. Even better, we have a plethora of videos that can help get you started!

Eat
Replace the thought in your head that skipping meals will equal losing weight. It simply is not true. Not eating confuses your body into thinking you are starving and thus in an effort to protect you, holds on to extra calories. Broken down skipping meals does the exact opposite of what you are intending to do. You need to eat to keep your metabolism running at full speed.

Remove Processed Carbs
Crackers, chips, candy bars and french bread, yes, they are all delicious, however, they aren’t doing anything to help your weight loss. Not only that, all the sugar in them can cause your body to hold on to extra calories and fat. Best idea is to keep them out of reach and eat more protein as it encourages your metabolism to work harder.
