Bottom line, if you are doing all you can, that you think is right to lose weight, avoid these five things.

Low Fat Diet
Removing the fat in the food means you have to add something to replace it. Did you know that most low fat foods are packed with sugar? This has been shown to weight gain, most frequently, belly fat. Fat free and low fat was a trend during the 90’s – now we are seemingly smarter. Healthy fats fill you up and increase metabolism, which will in turn burn fat. Take away, eat your fats people!

Exercise Exclusive
Fitness and working out are absolutely part of a successful weight loss equation. You may be hindering your weight loss goals, however by treating yourself to that latte or muffin, or margarita after your kick butt workout. You need to have a 500 calorie deficit every day of the week if you want to lose one pound. Weight loss is a numbers game. Most importantly, the key to weight loss is in the kitchen. Focus on getting your workouts in and staying within your daily caloric goal. Track everything you eat or drink and see the difference on the scale.

No Eating After 7 or 8 pm
You’ve heard it forever. Stop eating after 7 or 8 pm and you will definitely lose weight. This is simply not true. As mentioned above, it’s about total calories consuming per day. If you are hungry after dinner, or are a late night snacker, opt for a protein drink – (Vega Protein powder with ice cold water), or egg whites with half an apple.

Meal Skipper
You may think that by skipping meals and giving yourself a caloric deficit you are on the right path. While this may look good on paper, it actually has the opposite effect. Yes, you need a caloric deficit, however, if you skip meals you slow down your metabolism and run the risk of overeating because you are feeling starved. Keep your engine burning. Making healthy food choices, real food full of protein, fiber and fat is the best plan.

Doesn’t matter if it’s gluten, carbs, sugar or pizza, if you are eliminating entire groups of food, you are looking for trouble. You will cave to your cravings and may go completely off the rails. Eat smart. Eat in moderation. Don’t let food control you and your daily life. You will see more success when you are a mindful eater, and eating from all food groups.
