Your New Healthy Elixir!

You probably have a bottle of olive oil sitting on your kitchen counter that is used only for cooking. Bet you didn’t know that drinking this cooking staple can give you healthy benefits? Olive oil is full of anti-oxidants and starting and ending every day with a tablespoon can help to end bloat as well as lose weight. So, what else does olive oil help with?

Reduce the risk of heart disease
This may seem contradictory, however, multiple studies have shown that the monounsaturated fats that olive oil contains, can help to protect the heart from disease. The FDA recommends two tablespoons is the magic amount per day. Please keep in mind that the two tablespoons of olive oil should replace other fats, preferably saturated fats, in your diet, staying within your daily calorie goal.

Aids with digestion
Even though there aren’t many studies regarding olive oil and digestion, the ones that exist show that olive oil is a great homeopathic remedy to aid constipation. It acts as a lubricant, which keeps things moving in your colon, which equals better digestive health.

Fights breast cancer
A recent study showed that women who followed the Mediterranean Diet, that was supplemented with first cold pressed olive oil, had a lower risk of breast cancer, versus a group of women who followed the same diet, supplemented with nuts or even a lower fat diet. Following a Mediterranean Diet has also been shown to reduce the risk of stroke and slow the aging process. Amazing!

Promotes weight loss
Monounsaturated fats help you to feel full, and target belly fat. Olive oil is the perfect fat to work into your diet to help you hit your weight loss goals. By keeping you feeling full, you are less likely to snack, or fill up on wasted calories. Make homemade salad dressing, or add the morning tablespoon to your scrambled eggs. Another yummy treat is a high fiber tortilla, topped with a smear of avocado, sliced tomatoes, then drizzled with olive oil. Delicious, and filling.
