9 Habits of Fit Women

5. Proper Form

The key to weight lifting, interval training and almost any exercise you do is having proper form. Without proper form you obviously risk injury and you may not be maximizing your time wisely at the gym. So, invest in a class or two with a personal trainer and use that time to ask questions and learn proper technique to ensure you are getting the most out of your time working out.

6. Stretch

At least 3 to 5 minutes of stretching before and after your workout will reduce muscle tightening and prevent injuries later on. This isn’t a new tip, but it’s definitely one you should incorporate in your routine, especially as you get older.

7. Consistency

Have you ever got into a rhythm of working out just to lose momentum by taking a week or two off? You shower, eat, and breathe everyday… exercise should be a part of that routine too! Set a time and stick to it! You’ll be happy you did.

8. Pay Attention to Your Body

Be mindful of what your body is trying to tell you. If you’re working out and something doesn’t feel right… stop! Don’t risk long term injury by thinking you have to push through unnecessary pain. We’re not talking about muscle burn or soreness… we’re talking about bones, ligaments, joints, etc. And, if something does go awry, see your doctor immediately.

9. Enjoy It!

If you’re having fun, you’ll stick with it. Get a girlfriend to join you, try a dance class or go for a hike. Incorporating physical fitness into your lifestyle will help make working out fun and ensure you hang in there and reach your goals. Enjoy it!
